Guest Lecture
Besides lectures and tutorials, we also organize guest talks for EPYMT students.
In 2014 summer, we organized the following talk.
Guest Lecture in August
Topic: Ricci Flow, Wallach Space and high school calculus
Speaker: Ms. Cheung Man Wai, Mandy(University of Cambridge)
Date: 30 July 2014 (Wed)
Time: 3:30pm to 5:15pm
Venue: LT1, Lee Shau Kee Building (LSK), The Chinese University of Hong Kong,
Abstract: Ricci flow is the primary tool to solve the Poincare Conjecture. Understanding how the sign of the curvature of a space changes under Ricci flow has always been an interesting question. In this talk, we will try to go over basic concept relating Ricci flow and the Poincare Conjecture. At the end, we will understand the effect of Ricci flow on curvatures on Wallach spaces. Surprisingly, the key trick to tackle this problem is simply what we learn from high school calculus. This is a joint work with Nolan Wallach.
All are welcome. No registration and payment is required. First come first served.

In 2012 summer, we held four guest talks in different mathematics topics. Many students enjoyed the talks and raised further mathematics questions.
